Given that the King of the United Kingdom Charles III is visiting our country these days, for the occasion nothing is better than a good tea, maybe at five o’clock.
Yes, the five o’clock tea is a tradition remains and I think it will always be one of the cornerstones of the British way of life, of British culture. And to live it at home alone, an afternoon with friends with lots of chatter, on a trip to London is a real magic.
I like to think that at the bottom of monarchies are charming and glamorous and serve as inspiration for many girls and women, and the British royal house with its loves, marriages, its ups and downs makes the whole world talk about it.
A nice way to celebrate the visit of the King in Italy, as I said, is with a good tea maybe sitting softly on a comfortable chair, very british, and a good book, and if you have dogs or cats that make company is even better. And of course live tea directly in London is the best, but it takes little to feel a real lady, a cup, a good tea and it’s done.
I leave you an article from September 2022 that talked about the five o’clock tea, I think you will like to read or reread it.
“It’s time for tea. Here is a tradition, very British of course, which has become iconic, represented in movies and TV series, written in countless novels.
For the British, the five o’clock tea is more than a simple one; it is something that represents them, it is something that is part of their culture and identifies them now all over the world. It is said that the rich English ladies even when they were very far from home never gave up their five o’clock, for them it was something that at the time meant a status symbol very important.
Obviously times have changed and the era of colonialism is over a long time but the tradition of making tea at five, or in any case in the afternoon, is still firmly rooted in the minds and hearts of the English, and indeed just go to London and see how many tea rooms there are everywhere.
Close to historic places founded when the tea trade with India was a British monopoly there are also newer places that try to keep the tradition unchanged and still alive maybe with some revisitation in modern key.
In typical British tea room you can sip tea in all ways, including the classic English breakfast, and then there are fantastic pastries and much more in an elegant and refined environment”.
And then all to prepare a good tea to feel at least for a day, at least for a few hours of real ladies. And you don’t have to go to London to enjoy a special day, an afternoon.
