Art scarred again. Again respect for culture, for history trampled as if it were nothing.
A young man has engraved his name on the Colosseum, symbol of Rome and of the whole of Italy, and in so doing has erased years and years of history, culture, battles, legends born on this monument so loved by Romans and tourists.
Sincerely feel that art as usual is considered the last wheel of the cart hurts me, very bad. Many times we have talked about how our monuments, museums and art galleries are at risk and it is really sad to see culture at the mercy of unscrupulous people, without a minimum of respect for our history and our values.
Art represents for better or for worse all that we are, the things we fought for, our traditions, everything that makes us a people united in the years of peace and war.
How would the Roman emperors, the artists, feel if they knew that their work, often costing years of toil, was vandalized and disparaged? They wouldn’t take it well.
Art and respect for what has been our history is a matter of education and intelligence, and unfortunately today there is a shortage of both.
