And are you for or against pineapple pizza? And above all, have you already tried it?
This Friday I came across an article about an Italian chef who lives and works in Australia who was fired for refusing to put pineapple on pizza. One of those articles that makes us outraged and think the chef made the right choice because for us Italians it’s practically inconceivable to pair pineapple and pizza. We’re the ones who, when they go abroad and see people eating the most disparate foods and perhaps accompanying them with a cappuccino, immediately think of scandal, of an attack on our delicious cuisine.
Of course, I know, maybe some of you like pineapple pizza and are happy to eat it, but pizza toppings, especially the weirdest ones, have always been the focus of a real debate, and each of us has our own specific opinion that often stems from those tastes and flavors she’s used to hearing from a very young age.
Food is culture, I always say this and those who have been reading my blog for a long time know it, and it’s also nice to try new dishes and really innovative flavors, but in the case of pizza, I think not everyone is willing to taste something truly strange, something that comes from a culture so different from ours.
I personally remain faithful to the most classic pizzas like daisy, prosciutto crudo, with buffalo mozzarella or calzone and when I was still a little girl with a few sausages but nothing more. I’m always available to try innovative dishes and new flavors, but not on pizza. That’s a great classic, and I feel like adding toppings that are so far removed from tradition distorts the very essence of a good pizza.
And what do you think? If you’ve ever tried any slightly strange pizzas with unusual toppings, let me know in the comments. I’m curious to read you.
PS Gordon Ramsay defends the Italian chef and takes a stand against pineapple pizza.
